I have never felt the need to look up a business's sanitation rating, but I was so horrified by the condition of their kitchen on our last visit that I sought it out. My first visit to Storie Street was in August 2014 and I had noticed the kitchen was very dirty then too. This sanitation rating (83) is from September 2014 (at the bottom of my review). They had a better rating (95) in December 2014. But I can't even imagine what the rating would have been if they had inspected this past Saturday during lunch. There was food and grease all over the place, dirty pots on the floor, and messes everywhere on the counters and cook areas. They were super busy when we got to the restaurant so I could see things getting out of hand in that tiny kitchen. But when we were leaving at 2pm, the kitchen was still a complete wreck even though the lunch rush was well over. Beyond that, the food varied between okay and really good. I put up a picture of the fried asparagus someone got. It was a complete rip off at $12 - very little food and terrible presentation. The burger was pretty good. I like their Southern Sideboard concept but what we tried from it was hit or miss. Mac n Cheese was dry and over-cooked. The collards were bitter. The succotash was just slimy Lima beans and no corn. Another person in our group got a chicken Caesar and it looked pretty good. Also our food took almost 45 minutes, this after we waited 30 plus minutes for a table. So we were there over two hours. Our server was sweet but there was no communication with us about why it was taking so long and we saw other tables around us get their food before us even though we ordered earlier. I would give the food 3 stars at best but the kitchen (and bathrooms) were in such bad shape, I really wouldn't recommend Storie Street based on my two visits so far. Three of us were looking forward to dinner here after some friends recommendation. We had called to make reservations for 7pm. When we arrived our reservation was not listed but luckily it wasn't too busy. We were seated near the door which isn't my favorite spot but no problem. Our server was super nice and we ordered our dinner and drinks for the table. One hour later the food arrived. Pot roast, pasta with Rosa sauce and eggplant were what we tried. The portions were small I was still hungry after eating. No one was truly impressed by their dinner even though they weren't bad, just nothing special for the cost. I do not think I'll dine here again.

We had high hopes for this cute spot downtown but 2 of the 5 of us got sick. We think it was from the fried foods. When you walk to the bathroom you can see the fry baskets and the oil looked so dirty. We knew it smelled a little off when we walked in and I wish we had walked out!

My Bride got Brie, Apple, Onion, Turkey (I think) I tasted it and thought it was good Fries were Boring! Still not greasy and sliced thin, like I like, these will NOT make my "Lonely Fries" yelp list (reason it is called "Lonely")... 2 1/2 stars Calamari was NOT good, nothing wrong except the flavor! 2 stars Our Waiter did a GREAT job and the place was packed! We called ahead for Lunch (1:00 PM) during Art in the Park Saturday...we still had a wait and it was worth the wait!

Meh. I like the charm of the place, but service was slow, though the girl looked like she was busy. I got the pot roast which was supposed to be melt-in-your-mouth, but it was on the dry side. I had to ask for some kind of gravy, and they gave me the substitute Au jus for French dipped sandwich. That plate was $14! Also, it came with two sides which, the one I ordered Sweet potatoe casserole, "just ran out" - after we were waiting for about 1/2 hour. And it was only the meat! No potatoes or carrots in the pot roast though I could've sworn the girl said the lunch special was different from the pot roast soup because it had veggies. Dry, dry!! My crock pot pot roast blows the one I ordered...no pun intended. Anyway, it may be a really long time until I come back to blowing rock, nc. Beautiful place. Kinda touristy and over priced, but very nice.

I wish I could say that I had a chance to sample the food that Storie Street Grille's delicious looking menu promised. Sadly, that was not the case, as my party was turned away before all of us had even set foot inside the front door. After strolling through downtown Blowing Rock, my friends and I went in search of a late lunch (around 2pm) and settled upon Storie Street for its interesting sounding menu. We entered the establishement and asked how long a wait it would be for a party of five, stating that we would be happy to wait, (assuming that on a Saturday afternoon it might be a while). We did not even get to the waiting point, as we were rudely told that the restaurant would not be sitting five-person parties for the rest of the day, but that we could "check back later" if we wanted. I don't know about anyone else, but I have NEVER been turned away from a restuarant because of the odd-number of people in my party. I do not know if management was the one making this call, or if an overwhelmed hostess decided to make an executive decision. Either way, how incredibly inappropriate and a sure fire way to lose business. Even if the food is delicious, I do not think I will ever be able to get over how rudely treated my friends and I were in order to give this place another go. Too bad, since I've been spending an increasing amount of weekends in the Boone/Blowing Rock area. It doesn't matter how good your food is, it will never compensate for rudeness and and inhospitable environment.

It was good not great. Sweet potato fries with buttermilk dressing were good. The fried chicken and chicken tenders (kids menu) were dry. Trout was tasteless. Cheese pizza (kids menu) not very good. Probably better places in Blowing Rock.

In our first visit to Blowing Rock we decided to try Storie Street. One of the draws was a Brie small plate appetizer listed on their online menu. We asked for it when we sat down and were told, when we didn't see it on the menu, that they were short staffed and it wasn't available. Another waitress told a neighboring table they downsized their menu. Either way it was a bummer. Oddly we were also never asked if we wanted bread and didn't know it was available till we heard another table was offered bread as soon as they sat down. These are relatively minor issues, but disappointing nonetheless. We ordered a glass of wine and a beer to drink and they were reasonably priced. We opted to go small plates. The green tomatoes with pimento cheese and bacon were very tasty but the portion was tiny. We each had two small thin slices for a $10 dish. The asparagus fries were awesome and the goat cheese ranch dipping sauce was crazy good. The portion was very nice. Finally we split a wedge salad which was huge with golf ball size chunks of blue cheese. Very delicious! We got out of there with tip at $55. This would have been a 4 star review, but the two disappointments and the tiny tomato portion left us at a 3.

Two seater to the right of the entrance was quaint, more private, slightly more quiet but STUNK like raw sewage the whole time! My date and I kept looking at each other but didn't want to ask who kicked the dog?!?! Probably won't go back.

Had lunch here on a busy, rainy Friday. I was seated very quickly and the servers were very attentive. I got the pot roast dinner, which was very juicy and tender with a great flavor and not a lot of fat. The mashed potatoes were obviously made on site and were tasty. The green beans, though, lacked flavor and looked and tasted like they came out of a can. They even boxed up what I couldn't finish in a Eco-friendly cardboard container (love these!). Overall, very good experience for an out of towner.

Love the setting. Classic, busy, very tasty food. Avoid the wait and just sit at the bar if you can snag a seat. Super busy on a warm festival filled weekend, but worth the wait. Staff seemed friendly and the atmosphere was friendly. Definitely a good place to stop in on this busy and popular drag (after all it is mainstreet). Good luck with parking though. The fried green tomato appetizer was delicious and savory and generous enough to make a light meal. Skip dessert though, not a deliciously made as the main dishes.

Best Mac and cheese ever. Ever. Wood fired Brussels- phenomenal. Flat bread pizza was great. And I love their focus on house made duck bacon. There were some execution issues- they were very busy and the service was pretty slow, the meals did not come out at same time, the house salad was barely dressed and the meat on the flank steak sandwich was pretty cold. I ate every single bite! Quaint, classy and friendly. Our waitress Sky did an awesome job. Her suggestions were spot on, her knowledge of the menu items was perfect and the food didn't disappoint. My salmon was cooked to perfection and my salad was dressed with a tasty homemade dressing that'd make an old sock edible. Great for a date, friend or family night out. First and foremost, the food was really good. My table had the burger w/ fries, Patty Melt w/ chips, and BLT w/ broccoli salad. All tasted amazing. The service was also pretty good. We waited for a seat for 10-15 mins maximum. Even though we were told we would wait longer. And our servicer was definitely average! All in all, good....UNTIL We went to the bathroom after we finished our meal. On the way to the bathroom is the opening to the kitchen. Which is small so you can see the whole thing with just a glance. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. It smelled terrible too and there had to have been 7 guys back there. Turns out the sanitation rating was a 91. No wonder. Had I seen the kitchen before I ate, I would not have eaten there. It turned my stomach. You should definitely know that going into a place. Behind the scenes was disgusting!

This place is a staple of downtown Blowing Rock, so if you're looking to have a nice meal in the heart of town this is the place to do just that. One thing I must mention right off the bat is that the dress is not as casual as we had anticipated. We stopped in for lunch after hiking at Moses Cone and felt a bit out of place. But that's okay because we had a damn good meal. We were seated outside on the covered deck so we could feel that fresh mountain air. The menu was full of local flavors which is exactly what we were looking for. My pick, the trout sandwich, was fantastic. Lots of sides available, from butter beans to fries to okra. There were also some pretty good looking burgers. The drink menu had some Carolina beer selections, and there was a full bar. No drafts, all bottles. The wait staff was extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. It was a bit pricey, but it was worth it. If you're looking for a good spot to eat in the middle of downtown Blowing Rock, this is the place to go (unless it's a Sunday)!

My fiance and I would come here for almost every special occasion when we were going to Appalachian. The food is incredible and staff is always very welcoming and friendly. One night we came for an anniversary and without us saying anything, our server apologized for our food being so late and offered to give us a dessert on the house. Neither of us thought we had been waiting too long, just the average wait time for our meal, but we thought that was really nice of them. The place is a little on the small side and doesn't have much space if you're waiting for a table, so I suggest making reservations. Anytime we come back to visit Boone/Blowing Rock we always try to come to Storie Street!

This is a solid restaurant but nothing too special. The chicken parm was dried out, too salty but little flavor and had little sauce though it came out piping hot. My husband's pot roast was also average and rigid lacking flavor. We liked that the waitress did not constantly bother us and the water pourer only came when needed (not every 5 seconds). Nice ambiance but given other excellent choices in Blowing Rock and Boone would probably not go out of our way to return to Storie Street Grille.

My husband and I were in town for the day. After reviewing menus at several restaurants we decided on Storie Street Grille for lunch. We ordered the Whistle Stop BLT with homemade chips and the Bacon Brie Apple Panini with broccoli salad. Both sandwiches met our expectations and then some. The potato chips were wonderful and the broccoli salad was nice and fresh. The only reason we left food on our plates was because we just couldn't eat ny more. Our server was very professional giving suggestions when asked. We were not rushed at any time. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and would recommend this restaurant to others.

I can't understand the negative reviews on this place. I absolutely LOVED this place!!!! The restaurant itself is nothing to write about but the back patio is lovely and the view is of course gorgeous. The menu is full of fresh, unique, flavorful combinations. I love the fact that reading this menu was actually enjoyable. You know it is a good sign when you can't decide between 3 and 4 items because they all sound so amazing. They had a variety of sandwiches---salmon cake, smoked turkey, reuben, grilled shrimp, etc. They also had several different salads and a ton of "meal" options...quiche, meatloaf, pot roast, fried chicken, hamburger, eggplant, etc. First of all, the asparagus "fries" with goat cheese ranch were very good. It was basically asparagus flash fried so you would never really know it was asparagus but the goat cheese ranch was heavenly. I ordered the farro and white bean salad...it was tossed with shaved broccoli, sunflower seeds, golden raisins and red onions, covered in a tahini vinaigrette. It was served with sunflower basil flatbread. It was very, very good! I enjoyed every single bite and it was filling. I was fully satisfied. My husband got the oven roasted caprese, roma tomato, fresh mozzarella, baby spinach and basil sandwich. It was served warm on a "po'boy" roll with sun-dried tomato pesto drizzle. The bread was crunch and the flavors were bursting!! It was extremely good. He ordered a side of sweet potato fries which were also tasty. We didn't have enough room for dessert but they sounded incredible!! The vanilla bread pudding and homemade cheesecake are on my list for next time. The service was friendly, the restaurant was packed and everything seemed cooked to order. Highly enjoyable!! I will be back again and again. Not to be too extreme but I almost think this restaurant alone is worth the drive from Charlotte to Blowing Rock! Just sayin!!

My girlfriend and I went here a few weeks ago during a visit to the mountains. The atmosphere is nice. We showed up on a Friday night without reservations and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. We waited at the bar, where the owner served us and was very friendly. We were seated and had a very friendly server. I had the trout and my girlfriend had the chicken stuffed with spinach (not sure of the actual name of the dish). Both were very good. The meal, with 2 glasses of wine and a 20% tip equaled $72.

Led here by the Yelp reviews and it pretty much lived up to its rating. I won't order the hamburger steak again, however. Despite requesting medium well, it was nearly rare and the mushy middle was a bit revolting. The rest of the meal was very good and my wife loved her meal as well. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was quite nice except for one item outside their control. They must share a wall with a party establishment as a deep, disco-like bass line was reverberating through the floor and was quite irritating. The lunch menu was a bit fru fru and my wife had the apple bacon quiche topped with brie, which she thoroughly enjoye. I don't want fruit in my entree so I played it safe on this surprising frigid and snowy autumn day with the comfort foods of hamburger steak, fries, and mac & cheese . I did ask to see their dinner menu which looked much better, so I hope to return and give those a try and hopefully raise their rating.

Some decent entrees here, with the wife having a BLT with fried green tomatoes and I had a pretty decent reuben. The pasta salad was good, and the fries were, as with the rest of Blowing Rock, a dollar extra. Whatever. Some good local beers helped alleviate that, though. However, no strollers are allowed because the place has very narrow walking areas. Also, the back patio has a view of a tiny parking lot, someone's back yard, and a dumpster. Scenic Blowing Rock at its finest.

Food was pretty good. I had the trout which was cooked perfectly but could have used some more seasoning. No reason for anyone not to try this place. I don't eat trout much, mostly saltwater fish, so maybe it was just my taste. Wife had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were cooked well, grits were tough, and barbeque sauce has never gone with shrimp and grits. You might want to dump that and make some shrimp gravy. Service was good, and kitchen kept a good pace. Not too quick, but we didn't wait forever either. One thing for the owner (if he reads this). We were told there was a 30 minute wait. A group of four came in behind us, they were told 45 minutes and turned around and left. We got seated in 7 minutes, I had glanced at my watch. As we sat I noted at least 3-4 four tops empty for the entire dinner. Their hostess turned away probably $200-250 in business. If you want to know the date it was 11/23 if you want to see who was on duty.

We had lunch here this weekend. I made reservations and was glad I did, they have a wait; we were in within 5 minutes though. The decor is very tasteful, decent if not small wine list. I really regret that we got hungry about an hour and a half before lunch and had a snack because I really wanted to try some of the appetizers as they sounded delicious but we were not starving. I had the turkey and brie sandwich and it was very good. My bf had the oyster po' boy and wasn't as pleased, simply because it was absolutely smothered with brown mustard (dripping). It would have been good had it not been for that. We both had the yukon chips which were good. I would go back, I would love to try some of the other things on the menu.

First of all, the location can't be beat, right on the "main drag" of sleepy little Blowing Rock. The food is a bit expensive, and the entrees we had -- Butcher's Cut Steak, Crab Cake -- aspired to be more than they were, but were still pretty good. The salad was very good, nice homemade dressing. The coconut shrimp was cloying. The service was excellent. One of my kids spilled his lemonade, I am not kidding you, all over the f'ing floor, they needed like a whole tablecloth to catch the spill, and they handled it like it was no big deal.

My Mother and I stopped in last Friday 10/4/13 to celebrate a special occasion. We started off with the fried asparagus as an appetizer. I had the beef tenderloin and Mom had the scallops. I thought the food and service were both excellent. We took some bread pudding home with us because we were too full for dessert. I can't wait to come back. Great spot for lunch. It's right downtown on the main strip so it's very convenient. We had eggplant Napoleon, pumpkin curry soup and the quiche. Big thumbs up on the eggplant. Pumpkin soup was way too spicy for me and my husband, but quiche was delicious . It was a small individual pie and was mostly crust but flavored were great. Very cute ambience! I feel ripped off. The quality of the food here would be considered less than mediocre at even a more moderately priced restaurant. Literally not one thing of the nine things our table ordered was up to par. One pasta was overcooked, another was undercooked, both were clumped as if they hadn't been stirred after being thrown in the pot. Chopped chicken salad was full of skin and gristle, Caesar salads had limp lettuce. And the worst part of all, is that the food isn't cheap, even though the quality is.

We just had Breakfast at the Storie Street Grill. We have had a home in Blowing Rock for 15 years and usually breakfast at Knight's on main. The Storiestreet grill was a huge disappointment. Toast was burned, grits were lumpy, watery and totally unseasoned. My omelet was simply 2 poorly scrambled eggs with added sides. Fried green tomatoes were good. Service was good and atmosphere is good. Given the quality of the food, we will never eat there again. The one star is for service and atmosphere. It is a real tragedy that Knights is gone.

If you ever come to Boone, N.C. make sure you get down to neighboring Blowing Rock and have lunch or dinner here, but you better make a reservation to get in at dinner because this is a very popular place at dinner time. Had a terrific lunch there yesterday with excellent appetizers (Calamari and Shrimp) and finished that off with their fantastic Storie Street Burger. They have an excellent wine list as well. It's a very cozy atmosphere and the service is top class. And afterwords there is plenty of shopping within walking distance in beautiful Blowing Rock.

We brought our two small kids, which was fine, but I wouldn't recommend, as it's a quiet, adult, romantic place and they have no children's menu. Wow. One of the worst meals I've had in the high country. I had the trout, which was served "farro and andouille "jambalaya,"" - good thing they had quotes around that jambalaya, because it consisted of unseasoned grains, some sliced celery, and two small pieces of sausage. The fish itself was tasteless and overcooked. Overall, this was a terrible dish. And for $24, I expect a LOT better. My husband had the pork chop. HOW DO YOU SCREW UP A PORK CHOP? Unseasoned; tough; flavorless. The gouda grits were good. The service was great! But I won't be going back.
We chose this restaurant for lunch based on 2 five star reviews. I had high hopes and was pleasantly surprised by our sweet potato fry app. There was a heaping plate of fries with Parmesan and blue cheese and ranch dressing sprinkled over the top. For my main course I had a disappointing quiche of the day with a "Storie Salad". The tiny quiche would have tasted good but it was super dry. The salad had more blue cheese which overpowered the dish and gave me a headache. The salad also had walnuts and mandarin orange slices but all you could taste was the blue cheese. My hubby got the meatloaf sandwich which was huge and he said it was very good. I, on the other hand, left hungry. The restaurant itself is small and dark but it has a cozy feel. Actually, this cold Monday they had the heat cranked so high it was uncomfortable. I could have been sitting there is a tank top and shorts and still would have been hot. Service was just OK. For as slow as the place was it should have been more attentive. Storie Street Grille was not the restaurant I had hoped it would be.

Redefining soup and sandwich. If you come for lunch, get the chef's choice soup & sandwich. The sandwich of the day, on sourdough bread along with the soup of the day. Mine was beef stew like with a turkey and cheese. But it was so much more than that. I would love an opportunity to try out the rest of the menu, since they seem to do everything a little different.

I would rate my last dish there as one of the all time most disgusting meals I have ever been served. I had the vegetarian meal. It was supposed to be a black bean and grain patty. It came out looking like a bunch of slop on a plate. I tried it, and gagged. Thinking something was surely wrong with my taste buds (they wouldn't serve this, would they?!?) I had my husband try it. He spit it out into his napkin. I sent it back. But, my appetite was so ruined by the texture, the look and taste of that meal, I did not ask for anything to replace it. This restaurant is also not friendly to large groups. It does not allow strollers. Neither of those affect me, but just FYI. This was once a "storried" establishment on a bustling street in Blowing Rock... there are far better meals to be had in that area.

My wife and I first met Joanie and Bernie about 12 years ago, 4 days after they opened Storie St Grill in Blowing Rock NC. We have had many truly yummy meals since then, both as visitiors, and for the last 8 years as full time residents. Sandwiches, salads, burgers; we've had many different meals. Always a friendly and very accommodating staff. Several weeks ago, I strayed away from my usual burger choice, and opted for one of their country lunches - fried chicken with sawmill gravy, and I choose green beans and smashed potatoes (with a different gravy). Smack yo mama!! Bring on the portable defibrillator! It was AWESOME! Just like your mama or grandmama would have fixed. Could only eat 1/2; had the rest the next day. Great job Joanie and Bernie. So many great things about this place. Starting with the cute little town that it's located in, this restaurant mixes class with southern cuisine. One of the best things about visiting the North Carolina mountains is the country cookin', and Storie Street does it well, but a little jazzed up. The decor reminded me of a nice restaurant in a southern town. All of the food was great. I got salmon cakes and it was really hard to narrow down my decision. I also go sweet potato casserole, which tasted like my grandmothers. My in-laws both got the pot roast and had wonderful things to say about it. Went in tonight, very attentive hostess and wait staff. I made the mistake of going to the restroom to wash my hands. The door to the kitchen was open. What I saw was appalling. Bloody meat wrapping overflowing a trash can with blood splattering on the wall. A wedge of brie sitting on a white cutting board with meat cuttings and blood on it. Food all over the floor. I can only imagine what else is going on. Great menu on paper. I guess I hoped the kitchen would be up to restroom standards. I visit blowing rock about twice a year. I will never go here again.

I have eaten hundreds of chicken wings in my life. I have eaten 5 duck wing drumettes, all at Storie Street Grill. What else I had is irrelevant (ok, it was pork belly), but I would go back to SSG for the drumettes ANY DAY. They didn't have much of the glaze on them, but they didn't need it. So good!

Always a favorite but today had an appetizer new to the menu, duck wing drummettes, and it was probably the best appetizer I have ever had. My one regret was that I ordered a main course and not two (or five) orders of the duck wings. Nice selection of food overall, sandwiches, burgers, salads and you can get a full meal even at lunch. Everything is well prepared, classy but not stuffy. My only warning is it is not great for children. There is no children's menu (though they will prepare chicken tenders and fries by request), no crayons, etc.

Atmosphere - pretty cool. Small, quaint. Inside seemed nice but we were seated in an "overflow" area that was a closed in patio. A little chilly but we were just happy to be seated without reservations. Service - ok. Food - eh. My wife and I had steak which was probably a mistake from the get-go. We're pretty picky about our steaks and in hindsight I wouldn't expect a place like that to nail one to my liking. But, my daughters had salad w/ salmon cakes and lasagna... neither of which impressed. The wine was good and reasonably priced!

We had lunch here on a friend's recommendation and are glad we did. Service was friendly and the kitchen was a bit slow. We split the fried green tomatoes appetizer, which was delicious. I had the roasted beet salad with a salmon cake and my husband had the lentil and quinoa salad with grilled chicken. Both came on a large bed of greens. My husband expected more flavor in the lentil and quinoa combo but overall was satisfied and I found my salad to be very good but I would not get the salmon cake again -- too big a proportion of breadcrumbs in the mix. Overall definitely worth a return visit.

Blowing Rock has a top notch restaurant and it is the Storie Street Grill. When we were seated, we were served some nice wine by the glass and rye bread croissants with olive oil and black salt. We started with the duck wing appetizer which are crispy wings drizzled with a balsamic fig glaze. We then enjoyed the butcher's filet beef in an apple, port wine reduction served with parsley mashed potatoes and creamed kale. In addition we had a side order of bacon sauteed brussel sprouts. The kale and brussel sprouts were really great and different.

I've had client work that has taken me out to Boone/Blowing Rock several times this year and Storie Street Grill has been a nice discovery in the midst of it all. Portion sizes are nice - I usually can enjoy two appetizers or an appetizer/salad and feel like I've had a nice meal. The wine list is varied and reasonably priced. If anything my only complaint would be how close the tables are together - some improved noise reduction might be nice as I spent my last dinner there listening to very loud conversations on each side of me - completely distracting.

My wife and I went to the Storie Street Grille for lunch on a recent Saturday with another couple. Things went a little awry right away as they were out of the first two beers we ordered. One was the excellent Highland Brewery Mocha Stout. It is a micro-brew so you could reasonably expect them to run short. The other was Michelob Ultra which was a bit surprising since it mass-produced. For my meal I had the Horseradish Cheddar Burger. The rest of the table ordered the Fish & Chips, the Pot Roast Dinner, and the Pot Roast "Philly". I ordered my burger medium-well, but it was extremely overcooked and dry. Additionally, it was very small compared to the size of the bun. Normally I can deal with an overcooked burger if there is some sauce or condiment on it. This was supposed to have horseradish cream but there was just a tiny drizzle of it on the burger. It was so little in fact that I literally did not taste horseradish in a single bite of the burger. On the plus side, the French fries were hot and tasty. My companions found their meals quite tasty. This is a good thing even though it left me quite jealous as I tried to finish my meal. The burger was small enough that I was still hungry after I finished it so I tried my wife's Fish & Chips. It was very good. The service was only average. The hostess was very friendly and so was the server. However, she didn't really check on us after she brought the food and she never cleared the table before we left. This was my third visit to Storie Street Grille and the first one that didn't go well so I will likely go back again. I will get the Fish & Chips.

I rarely dole out 5 star goodies, but this restaurant deserved it. We arrived extra early for the 5 o'clock dinner crowd, stood by the doors, and were let inside to a world of delicious dining. MY MY MY. THIS FOOD WAS AMAZING. The Storie Street Salad with sherry dijon vinegeratte (sp) dressing was SUPERB. My mouth was OOZING DELIGHTFUL FEELINGS. I had the Junior Johnson pasta with chicken and fried okra. RESPLENDID. I had no idea what to expect...I mean...chicken, pasta, and fried okra...what?! WHAT?!?! NO WAY! But they PULL IT OFF WITH CLASS. Also, I had free wine tonight. Don't even ask how I pulled that one off. YEEEEEHAWWWWWWWWWWWW PILGRIMS.

Stopped in for lunch. On the Main Street two minutes from the art museum. May have to park a few blocks away. Friendly, fine service when we went. I had a po boy and my wife fish and chips. Both fine. Excellent fries. I had a side of okra which was very well prepared. To me cooking okra well is the mark of a good chef. If not well done it is slimy and unpleasant. Much fancier stuff if you wish on the menu but we stayed simple. Lots of local products. We sat on the semi-enclosed outdoor area with lovely mountain views. Worth the visit.

Chef Andy Long is an amazing, talented, and humble young man. He loves to cook and it shows in everything that we had from his kitchen. The food is flavorful and the combinations are inventive. It is pleasing to the eye and the palate. The ahi tuna Appetizer was perfect. The oyster, shrimp, and grits was great also. The most amazing thing was the watuga bacon and egg. It consisted of pork belly, napa cabbage slaw, mustard seed topping and a fried egg. It was over the top. The sea bass special was phenominal and so was the scallop special. I am too full and soporific at this time to give adequate descriptions of the food we ate but on a three week trip and eating well the whole time this was the overall best of the best. This place is worth a drive from anywhere. Even though they were very busy the service was attentive. Go here. Tell him captain jak sent you.

This is the worst restaurant that we have been to in a very long time. The hostess was quite condescending. The owner was not much better. I ordered the beef filet rare which came medium well. It was also not tender. The cost tor this was $34.00. I sent it back and it was replaced with a slightly better filet that was finally rare. This was done in an oily sauce with some kind of bacon bits that were hard as rocks. The vegetables were also very oily. The beef was definitely low quality. Unfortunately this meal put a damper on an otherwise nice visit to this town.

I really liked the feel of this restaurant, especially their wonderful outdoor patio area that was closed-in and heated so that we were still enjoying "sitting outside" on a cool, rainy October evening. The food was quite good. Our appetizers were a great start to the meal, particularly the eggplant Napoleon. Holy yum!!! I am just recently discovering how delicious and versatile eggplant can be, and this dish really blew me away. Every bite offered a different combo of flavors and left me wanting more - this might be an appetizer for One next time, if I have my way. :) The seared tuna was nicely done, as well. I had a side "Storie Street salad" for just $3.50 in addition to my entree... this was a delicious little salad, with the great additions of tangy gorgonzola cheese and sweet candied pecans (they brought us more of those on request, yum yum!). I liked that they served the dressing on the side by default, so that you can put as little or as much on as you like. For dinner, I had the locally made "pasta wench" spinach and ricotta ravioli in a sundried tomato, walnut, and basil cream sauce - delicious, but RICH! The portions were very generous; I was served 5 or 6 large ravioli and couldn't finish them all. My mom had the pecan-crusted pan-fried NC rainbow trout, which was just a gigantic serving of fish: it covered the entire dinner plate and completely obscured the side of watercress and grits that it was served on. I tasted a bite of the fish with grits and thought it was full of great flavor. She mentioned that the maple buerre blanc sauce that was served with the fish was very rich, though, and filled her up fast. She made a valiant effort but couldn't finish much more than half the trout. They have a nice wine list and best of all, the prices are VERY reasonable. It was a busy place even on a Tuesday evening, and I can see why - if I lived here, I would definitely come back. As it is, I might have to make a special return visit just for the eggplant Napoleon. ;) As a side note: I really appreciated the entire page of their menu devoted to sharing information on the sources of the food they serve, from the chicken, beef, and salmon to the chevre, pasta, and coffee. It's always nice to know where your food comes from, something I think we too often lose sight of in this day and age of global food markets. So bravo, Storie Street!

Adorable restaurant! Ambiance is upscale but comfortable. Eat outside if you can-- gorgeous patio to look over the town. Food is delicious, sort of expensive, but worth it once in a while. Everything is good-- I think I had a sandwich of some sort, but definitely tried everyone's food and no negative comments to speak of. A great place to share a bottle of wine, keep your shades on, and have a relaxed lunch or dinner out post-outlet shopping in Blowing Rock!

Best meal in Blowing Rock! I've been coming to Blowing Rock for years, and Storie Street Grille is the best meal in town. Great atmosphere, delicious Southern fare. Love it! Staff is helpful and fun. On our latest trip we had the fried chicken breast, sweet potato casserole (to die for), fried okra and cinnamon apples. Everything was great, but probably the best thing we ate was the appetizer - asparagus fries - AMAZING! Cool black and white photos of Blowing Rock cover the walls. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. I felt very much at home in here and it fits nicely with the small town surrounding it. The food itself was good, but a bit high-priced. I had a wonderful salad, topped with an excellently cooked filet of salmon. My wife had the lobster roll with chips. The lobster roll left a little to be desired (in my taste) and her chips (homemade) were a bit over done. I would go back for the salad.

2.5 stars at most. Eat here If you aren't into wine and you are willing to wait. Had to wait 30 minutes for bread (it was 'in the oven' forever) however the bread was actually v good when it arrived. Finally got our food 90 minutes after we sat down. Our waiter was very cordial but not nearly as honest as the folk at Six Pence. My friends enjoyed their salad but the trout was slightly fishy & the risotto was bland and dry. Duck was dry n sad. The mussels were subpar especially if you're from the coast. If you are drinking your dinner like we did then we suggest the correctly priced Spain Pinotage & the Board Track Racer to sip. Sadly we won't be returning to Storie unless we meet our fun waiter n his bf after work for drinks.

Excellent food! I loved this place! Cute restaurant. Very busy. I called on our way there to get a reservation (after finding this place on Yelp.). She fit us in 1/2 hour. We started out with Sweet Potato appetizer. It was SO good!!! I asked the waitress about 2 entrees and I'm so glad she didn't say "it's all good!". I often find myself considering a 2 hour drive from Charlotte just to eat here. I went here for lunch with my husband while on vacation. We were drawn in by the delicious smells. This place is all around awesome! Nice homey yet upscale feel. Service was excellent. We had the sweet potato fries for a starter. OMG! These are soooooo great! I almost didn't want to eat anything after these because I was afraid nothing would be close to as good as these. I ordered the pot roast which came with green beans, mashed potatoes, and cinnamon apples. I was in heaven! The pot roast was sooo tender and juicy! Hubby ordered the monte crisco. He was pleased and moaning through the meal.. LOL! I only wish I had room for dessert! I would give this place 10 stars if possible! They have seperate menus for lunch and dinner. I can't wait to go back next year and try the dinner menu!

I had a fabulous soup and very good salad. I would have given it 5 stars but my wife said the arugula in her salad was bitter. Wild Salmon was excellent as was the blueberry vinegrette dressing. My husband and I dined at Storie Street for the first time last night and were thrilled to have discovered another great restaurant in the area. Storie Street is a lovely restaurant on Main St. in Blowing Rock, NC, one of the most picturesque mountain towns in the state. The restaurant's decor is elegant and beautifully restrained. The menu focuses as much as possible on local ingredients and the food is just beautiful. My husband enjoyed a perfectly cooked duck breast served on top of fingerling potatoes that had been crisped in duck fat. I opted for one of the specials, a small steak topped with a garlic/shallot butter and served with parsley mashed potatoes and asparagus. Everything was expertly prepared; even the rolls were a cut above -- crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, served warm with butter. We had a very capable server and everyone in the restaurant was welcoming and friendly. This place is top-notch and we will be back soon!

I have never felt the need to look up a business's sanitation rating, but I was so horrified by the condition of their kitchen on our last visit that I sought it out. My first visit to Storie Street was in August 2014 and I had noticed the kitchen was very dirty then too. This sanitation rating (83) is from September 2014 (at the bottom of my review). They had a better rating (95) in December 2014. But I can't even imagine what the rating would have been if they had inspected this past Saturday during lunch. There was food and grease all over the place, dirty pots on the floor, and messes everywhere on the counters and cook areas. They were super busy when we got to the restaurant so I could see things getting out of hand in that tiny kitchen. But when we were leaving at 2pm, the kitchen was still a complete wreck even though the lunch rush was well over. Beyond that, the food varied between okay and really good. I put up a picture of the fried asparagus someone got. It was a complete rip off at $12 - very little food and terrible presentation. The burger was pretty good. I like their Southern Sideboard concept but what we tried from it was hit or miss. Mac n Cheese was dry and over-cooked. The collards were bitter. The succotash was just slimy Lima beans and no corn. Another person in our group got a chicken Caesar and it looked pretty good. Also our food took almost 45 minutes, this after we waited 30 plus minutes for a table. So we were there over two hours. Our server was sweet but there was no communication with us about why it was taking so long and we saw other tables around us get their food before us even though we ordered earlier. I would give the food 3 stars at best but the kitchen (and bathrooms) were in such bad shape, I really wouldn't recommend Storie Street based on my two visits so far. Three of us were looking forward to dinner here after some friends recommendation. We had called to make reservations for 7pm. When we arrived our reservation was not listed but luckily it wasn't too busy. We were seated near the door which isn't my favorite spot but no problem. Our server was super nice and we ordered our dinner and drinks for the table. One hour later the food arrived. Pot roast, pasta with Rosa sauce and eggplant were what we tried. The portions were small I was still hungry after eating. No one was truly impressed by their dinner even though they weren't bad, just nothing special for the cost. I do not think I'll dine here again.

Meh. I like the charm of the place, but service was slow, though the girl looked like she was busy. I got the pot roast which was supposed to be melt-in-your-mouth, but it was on the dry side. I had to ask for some kind of gravy, and they gave me the substitute Au jus for French dipped sandwich. That plate was $14! Also, it came with two sides which, the one I ordered Sweet potatoe casserole, "just ran out" - after we were waiting for about 1/2 hour. And it was only the meat! No potatoes or carrots in the pot roast though I could've sworn the girl said the lunch special was different from the pot roast soup because it had veggies. Dry, dry!! My crock pot pot roast blows the one I ordered...no pun intended. Anyway, it may be a really long time until I come back to blowing rock, nc. Beautiful place. Kinda touristy and over priced, but very nice.

I wish I could say that I had a chance to sample the food that Storie Street Grille's delicious looking menu promised. Sadly, that was not the case, as my party was turned away before all of us had even set foot inside the front door. After strolling through downtown Blowing Rock, my friends and I went in search of a late lunch (around 2pm) and settled upon Storie Street for its interesting sounding menu. We entered the establishement and asked how long a wait it would be for a party of five, stating that we would be happy to wait, (assuming that on a Saturday afternoon it might be a while). We did not even get to the waiting point, as we were rudely told that the restaurant would not be sitting five-person parties for the rest of the day, but that we could "check back later" if we wanted. I don't know about anyone else, but I have NEVER been turned away from a restuarant because of the odd-number of people in my party. I do not know if management was the one making this call, or if an overwhelmed hostess decided to make an executive decision. Either way, how incredibly inappropriate and a sure fire way to lose business. Even if the food is delicious, I do not think I will ever be able to get over how rudely treated my friends and I were in order to give this place another go. Too bad, since I've been spending an increasing amount of weekends in the Boone/Blowing Rock area. It doesn't matter how good your food is, it will never compensate for rudeness and and inhospitable environment.

In our first visit to Blowing Rock we decided to try Storie Street. One of the draws was a Brie small plate appetizer listed on their online menu. We asked for it when we sat down and were told, when we didn't see it on the menu, that they were short staffed and it wasn't available. Another waitress told a neighboring table they downsized their menu. Either way it was a bummer. Oddly we were also never asked if we wanted bread and didn't know it was available till we heard another table was offered bread as soon as they sat down. These are relatively minor issues, but disappointing nonetheless. We ordered a glass of wine and a beer to drink and they were reasonably priced. We opted to go small plates. The green tomatoes with pimento cheese and bacon were very tasty but the portion was tiny. We each had two small thin slices for a $10 dish. The asparagus fries were awesome and the goat cheese ranch dipping sauce was crazy good. The portion was very nice. Finally we split a wedge salad which was huge with golf ball size chunks of blue cheese. Very delicious! We got out of there with tip at $55. This would have been a 4 star review, but the two disappointments and the tiny tomato portion left us at a 3.

Had lunch here on a busy, rainy Friday. I was seated very quickly and the servers were very attentive. I got the pot roast dinner, which was very juicy and tender with a great flavor and not a lot of fat. The mashed potatoes were obviously made on site and were tasty. The green beans, though, lacked flavor and looked and tasted like they came out of a can. They even boxed up what I couldn't finish in a Eco-friendly cardboard container (love these!). Overall, very good experience for an out of towner.

Love the setting. Classic, busy, very tasty food. Avoid the wait and just sit at the bar if you can snag a seat. Super busy on a warm festival filled weekend, but worth the wait. Staff seemed friendly and the atmosphere was friendly. Definitely a good place to stop in on this busy and popular drag (after all it is mainstreet). Good luck with parking though. The fried green tomato appetizer was delicious and savory and generous enough to make a light meal. Skip dessert though, not a deliciously made as the main dishes.

I ate every single bite! Quaint, classy and friendly. Our waitress Sky did an awesome job. Her suggestions were spot on, her knowledge of the menu items was perfect and the food didn't disappoint. All in all, good....UNTIL We went to the bathroom after we finished our meal. On the way to the bathroom is the opening to the kitchen. Which is small so you can see the whole thing with just a glance. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. It smelled terrible too and there had to have been 7 guys back there. Turns out the sanitation rating was a 91. No wonder. Had I seen the kitchen before I ate, I would not have eaten there. It turned my stomach. You should definitely know that going into a place. Behind the scenes was disgusting!

Great food and great service. It was crowded while we were there but we were still taken care of. Had spinach salad with a marinated portobello that came with a surprise slice of deep fried brie - yummy! Husband had the Cuban sandwich with broccoli salad, both were very flavorful. This place is a staple of downtown Blowing Rock, so if you're looking to have a nice meal in the heart of town this is the place to do just that. One thing I must mention right off the bat is that the dress is not as casual as we had anticipated. We stopped in for lunch after hiking at Moses Cone and felt a bit out of place. But that's okay because we had a damn good meal. We were seated outside on the covered deck so we could feel that fresh mountain air. The menu was full of local flavors which is exactly what we were looking for. My pick, the trout sandwich, was fantastic. Lots of sides available, from butter beans to fries to okra. There were also some pretty good looking burgers. The drink menu had some Carolina beer selections, and there was a full bar. No drafts, all bottles. The wait staff was extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. It was a bit pricey, but it was worth it. If you're looking for a good spot to eat in the middle of downtown Blowing Rock, this is the place to go (unless it's a Sunday)!

My fiance and I would come here for almost every special occasion when we were going to Appalachian. The food is incredible and staff is always very welcoming and friendly. One night we came for an anniversary and without us saying anything, our server apologized for our food being so late and offered to give us a dessert on the house. Neither of us thought we had been waiting too long, just the average wait time for our meal, but we thought that was really nice of them. The place is a little on the small side and doesn't have much space if you're waiting for a table, so I suggest making reservations. Anytime we come back to visit Boone/Blowing Rock we always try to come to Storie Street!

This is a solid restaurant but nothing too special. The chicken parm was dried out, too salty but little flavor and had little sauce though it came out piping hot. My husband's pot roast was also average and rigid lacking flavor. We liked that the waitress did not constantly bother us and the water pourer only came when needed (not every 5 seconds). Nice ambiance but given other excellent choices in Blowing Rock and Boone would probably not go out of our way to return to Storie Street Grille.

My husband and I were in town for the day. After reviewing menus at several restaurants we decided on Storie Street Grille for lunch. We ordered the Whistle Stop BLT with homemade chips and the Bacon Brie Apple Panini with broccoli salad. Both sandwiches met our expectations and then some. The potato chips were wonderful and the broccoli salad was nice and fresh. The only reason we left food on our plates was because we just couldn't eat ny more. Our server was very professional giving suggestions when asked. We were not rushed at any time. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and would recommend this restaurant to others.

I can't understand the negative reviews on this place. I absolutely LOVED this place!!!! The restaurant itself is nothing to write about but the back patio is lovely and the view is of course gorgeous. The menu is full of fresh, unique, flavorful combinations. I love the fact that reading this menu was actually enjoyable. You know it is a good sign when you can't decide between 3 and 4 items because they all sound so amazing. They had a variety of sandwiches---salmon cake, smoked turkey, reuben, grilled shrimp, etc. They also had several different salads and a ton of "meal" options...quiche, meatloaf, pot roast, fried chicken, hamburger, eggplant, etc. First of all, the asparagus "fries" with goat cheese ranch were very good. It was basically asparagus flash fried so you would never really know it was asparagus but the goat cheese ranch was heavenly. I ordered the farro and white bean salad...it was tossed with shaved broccoli, sunflower seeds, golden raisins and red onions, covered in a tahini vinaigrette. It was served with sunflower basil flatbread. It was very, very good! I enjoyed every single bite and it was filling. I was fully satisfied. My husband got the oven roasted caprese, roma tomato, fresh mozzarella, baby spinach and basil sandwich. It was served warm on a "po'boy" roll with sun-dried tomato pesto drizzle. The bread was crunch and the flavors were bursting!! It was extremely good. He ordered a side of sweet potato fries which were also tasty. We didn't have enough room for dessert but they sounded incredible!! The vanilla bread pudding and homemade cheesecake are on my list for next time. The service was friendly, the restaurant was packed and everything seemed cooked to order. Highly enjoyable!! I will be back again and again. Not to be too extreme but I almost think this restaurant alone is worth the drive from Charlotte to Blowing Rock! Just sayin!!

My girlfriend and I went here a few weeks ago during a visit to the mountains. The atmosphere is nice. We showed up on a Friday night without reservations and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. We waited at the bar, where the owner served us and was very friendly. We were seated and had a very friendly server. I had the trout and my girlfriend had the chicken stuffed with spinach (not sure of the actual name of the dish). Both were very good. The meal, with 2 glasses of wine and a 20% tip equaled $72.

Led here by the Yelp reviews and it pretty much lived up to its rating. I won't order the hamburger steak again, however. Despite requesting medium well, it was nearly rare and the mushy middle was a bit revolting. The rest of the meal was very good and my wife loved her meal as well. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was quite nice except for one item outside their control. They must share a wall with a party establishment as a deep, disco-like bass line was reverberating through the floor and was quite irritating. The lunch menu was a bit fru fru and my wife had the apple bacon quiche topped with brie, which she thoroughly enjoye. I don't want fruit in my entree so I played it safe on this surprising frigid and snowy autumn day with the comfort foods of hamburger steak, fries, and mac & cheese . I did ask to see their dinner menu which looked much better, so I hope to return and give those a try and hopefully raise their rating.

Some decent entrees here, with the wife having a BLT with fried green tomatoes and I had a pretty decent reuben. The pasta salad was good, and the fries were, as with the rest of Blowing Rock, a dollar extra. Whatever. Some good local beers helped alleviate that, though. However, no strollers are allowed because the place has very narrow walking areas. Also, the back patio has a view of a tiny parking lot, someone's back yard, and a dumpster. Scenic Blowing Rock at its finest.

Food was pretty good. I had the trout which was cooked perfectly but could have used some more seasoning. No reason for anyone not to try this place. I don't eat trout much, mostly saltwater fish, so maybe it was just my taste. Wife had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were cooked well, grits were tough, and barbeque sauce has never gone with shrimp and grits. You might want to dump that and make some shrimp gravy. Service was good, and kitchen kept a good pace. Not too quick, but we didn't wait forever either. One thing for the owner (if he reads this). We were told there was a 30 minute wait. A group of four came in behind us, they were told 45 minutes and turned around and left. We got seated in 7 minutes, I had glanced at my watch. As we sat I noted at least 3-4 four tops empty for the entire dinner. Their hostess turned away probably $200-250 in business. If you want to know the date it was 11/23 if you want to see who was on duty.

We had lunch here this weekend. I made reservations and was glad I did, they have a wait; we were in within 5 minutes though. The decor is very tasteful, decent if not small wine list. I really regret that we got hungry about an hour and a half before lunch and had a snack because I really wanted to try some of the appetizers as they sounded delicious but we were not starving. I had the turkey and brie sandwich and it was very good. My bf had the oyster po' boy and wasn't as pleased, simply because it was absolutely smothered with brown mustard (dripping). It would have been good had it not been for that. We both had the yukon chips which were good. I would go back, I would love to try some of the other things on the menu.

First of all, the location can't be beat, right on the "main drag" of sleepy little Blowing Rock. The food is a bit expensive, and the entrees we had -- Butcher's Cut Steak, Crab Cake -- aspired to be more than they were, but were still pretty good. The salad was very good, nice homemade dressing. The coconut shrimp was cloying. The service was excellent. One of my kids spilled his lemonade, I am not kidding you, all over the f'ing floor, they needed like a whole tablecloth to catch the spill, and they handled it like it was no big deal.

My Mother and I stopped in last Friday 10/4/13 to celebrate a special occasion. We started off with the fried asparagus as an appetizer. I had the beef tenderloin and Mom had the scallops. I thought the food and service were both excellent. We took some bread pudding home with us because we were too full for dessert. I can't wait to come back. She wasn't the LEAST bit friendly and made no effort to seat our party of 7 together despite our asking to push 2 tables together (there were plenty available). Great spot for lunch. It's right downtown on the main strip so it's very convenient. We had eggplant Napoleon, pumpkin curry soup and the quiche. Big thumbs up on the eggplant. I feel ripped off. The quality of the food here would be considered less than mediocre at even a more moderately priced restaurant. Literally not one thing of the nine things our table ordered was up to par. One pasta was overcooked, another was undercooked, both were clumped as if they hadn't been stirred after being thrown in the pot. Chopped chicken salad was full of skin and gristle, Caesar salads had limp lettuce. And the worst part of all, is that the food isn't cheap, even though the quality is.

We just had Breakfast at the Storie Street Grill. We have had a home in Blowing Rock for 15 years and usually breakfast at Knight's on main. The Storiestreet grill was a huge disappointment. Toast was burned, grits were lumpy, watery and totally unseasoned. My omelet was simply 2 poorly scrambled eggs with added sides. Fried green tomatoes were good. Service was good and atmosphere is good. Given the quality of the food, we will never eat there again. The one star is for service and atmosphere. It is a real tragedy that Knights is gone.

If you ever come to Boone, N.C. make sure you get down to neighboring Blowing Rock and have lunch or dinner here, but you better make a reservation to get in at dinner because this is a very popular place at dinner time. Had a terrific lunch there yesterday with excellent appetizers (Calamari and Shrimp) and finished that off with their fantastic Storie Street Burger. They have an excellent wine list as well. It's a very cozy atmosphere and the service is top class. And afterwords there is plenty of shopping within walking distance in beautiful Blowing Rock.

We brought our two small kids, which was fine, but I wouldn't recommend, as it's a quiet, adult, romantic place and they have no children's menu. Wow. One of the worst meals I've had in the high country. I had the trout, which was served "farro and andouille "jambalaya,"" - good thing they had quotes around that jambalaya, because it consisted of unseasoned grains, some sliced celery, and two small pieces of sausage. The fish itself was tasteless and overcooked. Overall, this was a terrible dish. And for $24, I expect a LOT better. My husband had the pork chop. HOW DO YOU SCREW UP A PORK CHOP? Unseasoned; tough; flavorless. The gouda grits were good. The service was great! But I won't be going back.

This cozy little place is always good! The entire Staff is consistently polite and cheerful. The menu provides plenty of options an they also have an adequate selection of Wine. We started off with the Sweet Potato Fries with homemade Ranch Dressing as an appetizer. The portion is actually big enough to serve four. For lunch my wife ordered the Spinach & Arugula Salad with Blackened Chicken. I had the Whistle Stop BLT Sandwich with Slaw. Both entrées were delicious and filling. I recommend you get here early as the tables fill up quickly. This is a Flagship Restaurant in the Historic town of Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Enjoy!

We chose this restaurant for lunch based on 2 five star reviews. I had high hopes and was pleasantly surprised by our sweet potato fry app. There was a heaping plate of fries with Parmesan and blue cheese and ranch dressing sprinkled over the top. For my main course I had a disappointing quiche of the day with a "Storie Salad". The tiny quiche would have tasted good but it was super dry. The salad had more blue cheese which overpowered the dish and gave me a headache. The salad also had walnuts and mandarin orange slices but all you could taste was the blue cheese. My hubby got the meatloaf sandwich which was huge and he said it was very good. I, on the other hand, left hungry. The restaurant itself is small and dark but it has a cozy feel. Actually, this cold Monday they had the heat cranked so high it was uncomfortable. I could have been sitting there is a tank top and shorts and still would have been hot. Service was just OK. For as slow as the place was it should have been more attentive. Storie Street Grille was not the restaurant I had hoped it would be.

I would rate my last dish there as one of the all time most disgusting meals I have ever been served. I had the vegetarian meal. It was supposed to be a black bean and grain patty. It came out looking like a bunch of slop on a plate. I tried it, and gagged. Thinking something was surely wrong with my taste buds (they wouldn't serve this, would they?!?) I had my husband try it. He spit it out into his napkin. I sent it back. But, my appetite was so ruined by the texture, the look and taste of that meal, I did not ask for anything to replace it. This restaurant is also not friendly to large groups. It does not allow strollers. Neither of those affect me, but just FYI. This was once a "storried" establishment on a bustling street in Blowing Rock... there are far better meals to be had in that area.

My wife and I first met Joanie and Bernie about 12 years ago, 4 days after they opened Storie St Grill in Blowing Rock NC. We have had many truly yummy meals since then, both as visitiors, and for the last 8 years as full time residents. Sandwiches, salads, burgers; we've had many different meals. Always a friendly and very accommodating staff. Several weeks ago, I strayed away from my usual burger choice, and opted for one of their country lunches - fried chicken with sawmill gravy, and I choose green beans and smashed potatoes (with a different gravy). Smack yo mama!! Bring on the portable defibrillator! It was AWESOME! Just like your mama or grandmama would have fixed. Could only eat 1/2; had the rest the next day. Great job Joanie and Bernie. So many great things about this place. Starting with the cute little town that it's located in, this restaurant mixes class with southern cuisine. One of the best things about visiting the North Carolina mountains is the country cookin', and Storie Street does it well, but a little jazzed up. The decor reminded me of a nice restaurant in a southern town. All of the food was great. I got salmon cakes and it was really hard to narrow down my decision. I also go sweet potato casserole, which tasted like my grandmothers. My in-laws both got the pot roast and had wonderful things to say about it. We started with fried sweet potatoes and fried asparagus...which held true to my theory that you can fry anything.

Went in tonight, very attentive hostess and wait staff. I made the mistake of going to the restroom to wash my hands. The door to the kitchen was open. What I saw was appalling. Bloody meat wrapping overflowing a trash can with blood splattering on the wall. A wedge of brie sitting on a white cutting board with meat cuttings and blood on it. Food all over the floor. I can only imagine what else is going on. Great menu on paper. I guess I hoped the kitchen would be up to restroom standards. I visit blowing rock about twice a year. I will never go here again.

I have eaten hundreds of chicken wings in my life. I have eaten 5 duck wing drumettes, all at Storie Street Grill. What else I had is irrelevant (ok, it was pork belly), but I would go back to SSG for the drumettes ANY DAY. They didn't have much of the glaze on them, but they didn't need it. So good!

Always a favorite but today had an appetizer new to the menu, duck wing drummettes, and it was probably the best appetizer I have ever had. My one regret was that I ordered a main course and not two (or five) orders of the duck wings. Nice selection of food overall, sandwiches, burgers, salads and you can get a full meal even at lunch. Everything is well prepared, classy but not stuffy. My only warning is it is not great for children. There is no children's menu (though they will prepare chicken tenders and fries by request), no crayons, etc.

Atmosphere - pretty cool. Small, quaint. Inside seemed nice but we were seated in an "overflow" area that was a closed in patio. A little chilly but we were just happy to be seated without reservations. Service - ok. Food - eh. My wife and I had steak which was probably a mistake from the get-go. We're pretty picky about our steaks and in hindsight I wouldn't expect a place like that to nail one to my liking. But, my daughters had salad w/ salmon cakes and lasagna... neither of which impressed. The wine was good and reasonably priced!

We had lunch here on a friend's recommendation and are glad we did. Service was friendly and the kitchen was a bit slow. We split the fried green tomatoes appetizer, which was delicious. I had the roasted beet salad with a salmon cake and my husband had the lentil and quinoa salad with grilled chicken. Both came on a large bed of greens. My husband expected more flavor in the lentil and quinoa combo but overall was satisfied and I found my salad to be very good but I would not get the salmon cake again -- too big a proportion of breadcrumbs in the mix. Overall definitely worth a return visit.

Blowing Rock has a top notch restaurant and it is the Storie Street Grill. When we were seated, we were served some nice wine by the glass and rye bread croissants with olive oil and black salt. We started with the duck wing appetizer which are crispy wings drizzled with a balsamic fig glaze. We then enjoyed the butcher's filet beef in an apple, port wine reduction served with parsley mashed potatoes and creamed kale. In addition we had a side order of bacon sauteed brussel sprouts. The kale and brussel sprouts were really great and different.

I've had client work that has taken me out to Boone/Blowing Rock several times this year and Storie Street Grill has been a nice discovery in the midst of it all. Portion sizes are nice - I usually can enjoy two appetizers or an appetizer/salad and feel like I've had a nice meal. The wine list is varied and reasonably priced. If anything my only complaint would be how close the tables are together - some improved noise reduction might be nice as I spent my last dinner there listening to very loud conversations on each side of me - completely distracting.

My wife and I went to the Storie Street Grille for lunch on a recent Saturday with another couple. Things went a little awry right away as they were out of the first two beers we ordered. One was the excellent Highland Brewery Mocha Stout. It is a micro-brew so you could reasonably expect them to run short. The other was Michelob Ultra which was a bit surprising since it mass-produced. For my meal I had the Horseradish Cheddar Burger. The rest of the table ordered the Fish & Chips, the Pot Roast Dinner, and the Pot Roast "Philly". I ordered my burger medium-well, but it was extremely overcooked and dry. Additionally, it was very small compared to the size of the bun. Normally I can deal with an overcooked burger if there is some sauce or condiment on it. This was supposed to have horseradish cream but there was just a tiny drizzle of it on the burger. It was so little in fact that I literally did not taste horseradish in a single bite of the burger. On the plus side, the French fries were hot and tasty. My companions found their meals quite tasty. This is a good thing even though it left me quite jealous as I tried to finish my meal. The burger was small enough that I was still hungry after I finished it so I tried my wife's Fish & Chips. It was very good. The service was only average. The hostess was very friendly and so was the server. However, she didn't really check on us after she brought the food and she never cleared the table before we left. This was my third visit to Storie Street Grille and the first one that didn't go well so I will likely go back again. I will get the Fish & Chips.

MY MY MY. THIS FOOD WAS AMAZING. The Storie Street Salad with sherry dijon vinegeratte (sp) dressing was SUPERB. My mouth was OOZING DELIGHTFUL FEELINGS. I had the Junior Johnson pasta with chicken and fried okra. RESPLENDID. I had no idea what to expect...I mean...chicken, pasta, and fried okra...what?! WHAT?!?! NO WAY! But they PULL IT OFF WITH CLASS. Also, I had free wine tonight. Don't even ask how I pulled that one off. YEEEEEHAWWWWWWWWWWWW PILGRIMS.

Stopped in for lunch. On the Main Street two minutes from the art museum. May have to park a few blocks away. Friendly, fine service when we went. I had a po boy and my wife fish and chips. Both fine. Excellent fries. I had a side of okra which was very well prepared. To me cooking okra well is the mark of a good chef. If not well done it is slimy and unpleasant. Much fancier stuff if you wish on the menu but we stayed simple. Lots of local products. We sat on the semi-enclosed outdoor area with lovely mountain views. Worth the visit.

Chef Andy Long is an amazing, talented, and humble young man. He loves to cook and it shows in everything that we had from his kitchen. The food is flavorful and the combinations are inventive. It is pleasing to the eye and the palate. The ahi tuna Appetizer was perfect. The oyster, shrimp, and grits was great also. The most amazing thing was the watuga bacon and egg. It consisted of pork belly, napa cabbage slaw, mustard seed topping and a fried egg. It was over the top. The sea bass special was phenominal and so was the scallop special. I am too full and soporific at this time to give adequate descriptions of the food we ate but on a three week trip and eating well the whole time this was the overall best of the best. This place is worth a drive from anywhere. Even though they were very busy the service was attentive. Go here. Tell him captain jak sent you.

This is the worst restaurant that we have been to in a very long time. The hostess was quite condescending. The owner was not much better. I ordered the beef filet rare which came medium well. It was also not tender. The cost tor this was $34.00. I sent it back and it was replaced with a slightly better filet that was finally rare. This was done in an oily sauce with some kind of bacon bits that were hard as rocks. The vegetables were also very oily. The beef was definitely low quality. Unfortunately this meal put a damper on an otherwise nice visit to this town.

I really liked the feel of this restaurant, especially their wonderful outdoor patio area that was closed-in and heated so that we were still enjoying "sitting outside" on a cool, rainy October evening. The food was quite good. Our appetizers were a great start to the meal, particularly the eggplant Napoleon. Holy yum!!! I am just recently discovering how delicious and versatile eggplant can be, and this dish really blew me away. Every bite offered a different combo of flavors and left me wanting more - this might be an appetizer for One next time, if I have my way. :) The seared tuna was nicely done, as well. I had a side "Storie Street salad" for just $3.50 in addition to my entree... this was a delicious little salad, with the great additions of tangy gorgonzola cheese and sweet candied pecans (they brought us more of those on request, yum yum!). I liked that they served the dressing on the side by default, so that you can put as little or as much on as you like. For dinner, I had the locally made "pasta wench" spinach and ricotta ravioli in a sundried tomato, walnut, and basil cream sauce - delicious, but RICH! The portions were very generous; I was served 5 or 6 large ravioli and couldn't finish them all. My mom had the pecan-crusted pan-fried NC rainbow trout, which was just a gigantic serving of fish: it covered the entire dinner plate and completely obscured the side of watercress and grits that it was served on. I tasted a bite of the fish with grits and thought it was full of great flavor. She mentioned that the maple buerre blanc sauce that was served with the fish was very rich, though, and filled her up fast. She made a valiant effort but couldn't finish much more than half the trout. They have a nice wine list and best of all, the prices are VERY reasonable. It was a busy place even on a Tuesday evening, and I can see why - if I lived here, I would definitely come back. As it is, I might have to make a special return visit just for the eggplant Napoleon. ;) As a side note: I really appreciated the entire page of their menu devoted to sharing information on the sources of the food they serve, from the chicken, beef, and salmon to the chevre, pasta, and coffee. It's always nice to know where your food comes from, something I think we too often lose sight of in this day and age of global food markets. So bravo, Storie Street!

Adorable restaurant! Ambiance is upscale but comfortable. Eat outside if you can-- gorgeous patio to look over the town. Food is delicious, sort of expensive, but worth it once in a while. Everything is good-- I think I had a sandwich of some sort, but definitely tried everyone's food and no negative comments to speak of. A great place to share a bottle of wine, keep your shades on, and have a relaxed lunch or dinner out post-outlet shopping in Blowing Rock!

Best meal in Blowing Rock! I've been coming to Blowing Rock for years, and Storie Street Grille is the best meal in town. Great atmosphere, delicious Southern fare. Love it! Staff is helpful and fun. On our latest trip we had the fried chicken breast, sweet potato casserole (to die for), fried okra and cinnamon apples. Everything was great, but probably the best thing we ate was the appetizer - asparagus fries - AMAZING! Cool black and white photos of Blowing Rock cover the walls. We'll make this a regular stop when we're in town!

Oh my gosh, this place is by far one of the best restaurants in Blowing Rock!!!! I had the duck, which was phenomenal and free wine before 6pm! Wonderful service, great food, couldnt ask for better ambience. Sit outside if you can, great outdoor seating!!!!

The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice. I felt very much at home in here and it fits nicely with the small town surrounding it. The food itself was good, but a bit high-priced. I had a wonderful salad, topped with an excellently cooked filet of salmon. My wife had the lobster roll with chips. The lobster roll left a little to be desired (in my taste) and her chips (homemade) were a bit over done. I would go back for the salad.

2.5 stars at most. Eat here If you aren't into wine and you are willing to wait. Had to wait 30 minutes for bread (it was 'in the oven' forever) however the bread was actually v good when it arrived. Finally got our food 90 minutes after we sat down. Our waiter was very cordial but not nearly as honest as the folk at Six Pence. My friends enjoyed their salad but the trout was slightly fishy & the risotto was bland and dry. Duck was dry n sad. The mussels were subpar especially if you're from the coast. If you are drinking your dinner like we did then we suggest the correctly priced Spain Pinotage & the Board Track Racer to sip. Sadly we won't be returning to Storie unless we meet our fun waiter n his bf after work for drinks.

Excellent food! I loved this place! Cute restaurant. Very busy. I called on our way there to get a reservation (after finding this place on Yelp.). She fit us in 1/2 hour. We started out with Sweet Potato appetizer. It was SO good!!! I asked the waitress about 2 entrees and I'm so glad she didn't say "it's all good!". She recommended the Horseradish Crusted Salmon (over the chicken.). My husband ordered Shrimp N Grits. BOTH were so good! Great food, service, wine list. A must try!!!

Food is delicious! The setting is very nice and intimate. The restaurant is small, and there is a good chance at having a long wait, especially during tourist season. I would recommend making a reservation. We had a reservation and got seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. Will be going back soon.

I often find myself considering a 2 hour drive from Charlotte just to eat here. I went here for lunch with my husband while on vacation. We were drawn in by the delicious smells. This place is all around awesome! Nice homey yet upscale feel. Service was excellent. We had the sweet potato fries for a starter. OMG! These are soooooo great! I almost didn't want to eat anything after these because I was afraid nothing would be close to as good as these. I ordered the pot roast which came with green beans, mashed potatoes, and cinnamon apples. I was in heaven! The pot roast was sooo tender and juicy! Hubby ordered the monte crisco. He was pleased and moaning through the meal.. LOL! I only wish I had room for dessert! I would give this place 10 stars if possible! They have seperate menus for lunch and dinner. I can't wait to go back next year and try the dinner menu!

My wife and I had dinner last night and were very disappointed. I had the special Trout and my wife had the scallops. The trout was way overcooked and I could only eat a few bites. The scallops tasted strange and undercooked. Neither my wife nor I could finish them. We had a nice meal two years ago, but this time our food was terrible. Great rolls, however...

I had a fabulous soup and very good salad. I would have given it 5 stars but my wife said the arugula in her salad was bitter. Wild Salmon was excellent as was the blueberry vinegrette dressing. Portions were adequate and they get their meat, fish and produce from local organic farms or cooperatives.

My husband and I dined at Storie Street for the first time last night and were thrilled to have discovered another great restaurant in the area. Storie Street is a lovely restaurant on Main St. in Blowing Rock, NC, one of the most picturesque mountain towns in the state. The restaurant's decor is elegant and beautifully restrained. The menu focuses as much as possible on local ingredients and the food is just beautiful. My husband enjoyed a perfectly cooked duck breast served on top of fingerling potatoes that had been crisped in duck fat. I opted for one of the specials, a small steak topped with a garlic/shallot butter and served with parsley mashed potatoes and asparagus. Everything was expertly prepared; even the rolls were a cut above -- crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, served warm with butter. We had a very capable server and everyone in the restaurant was welcoming and friendly. This place is top-notch and we will be back soon!
